Q11 What is the third part of the prophecy?
It shall bruise thy head. Genesis 3:15
NOTE: Who or what does the word ‘it’ refer to? From the parts of the verse already considered it is clear that it is the seed of the woman, somebody still to come, who will do this. The word bruise in the Hebrew implies crushing. A head that is crushed is fatal. Adam and Eve both looked forward to one of their children being the One who would destroy the devil and restore what had gone wrong. When Cain was born Eve said, I have gotten a man from the Lord. Genesis 4:1
This part of the verse is the central hope of the entire Bible—that One would crush the head of the father of deceit lies and murder.
Q12 How does this very first prophecy reveal that Satan would bite back in this struggle?
Thou shalt bruise his heel. Genesis 3:15
NOTE: A bruised heel is painful but not terminal. Satan tortured and crucified Christ, but he did not succeed in annihilating the One he hated. This battle had begun in heaven. And there was war in heaven. Revelation 12:9 and continued on earth. The final destruction of the Devil will come when he is cast into the lake of fire to be reduced to ashes. Ezekiel 28:18 I will bring thee to ashes.
Q13 During what event does this final destruction of Satan and his works take place?
But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. 2 Peter 3:10
And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone. Revelation 20:10
For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch. Malachi 4:1
Q14 What marks will Jesus always bear from this struggle?
But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe. John 20:24,25
And one shall say unto him, What are these wounds in thine hands? Then he shall answer, Those with which I was wounded in the house of my friends. Zechariah 13:6 |
