Q1 In the Garden of Eden Adam and Eve had both sinned. Their state of holy innocence had been lost and they were unable to restore their position. They stood before God along with the serpent. What words did God speak to the serpent in their hearing?
I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head and thou shalt bruise his heel. Genesis 3:15
Q2 Who spoke the words, ‘I will’? Who made this prophetic Promise?
And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day … Genesis 3:8
And the Lord God called unto Adam … Genesis 3:9
And the Lord God said unto the woman … Genesis 3:13
And the Lord God said unto the serpent … Genesis 3:14
Q3 This prophetic Promise has four parts. What is the first part?
And I will put enmity between thee and the woman. Genesis 3:15
NOTE: God has just spoken to the literal serpent but now He changes to speaking to the ‘old serpent, the devil and Satan’ (and the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent called the devil and Satan which deceiveth. Revelation 12:9)
NOTE: We can see even today a hatred of snakes among the human race, but God was speaking mostly about what he had promised he would put in human hearts to make us feel uneasy with the ways of Satan. We make resolutions to be better, we feel restless with ourselves, we have a sense of longing to be clean. This is a gift of God to us. Without it we would fall into evil and not be aware of any other way of life. This gift from God helps us make our choices.
Q4 What is the second part of the Promise?
And I will put enmity between thy seed and her seed. Genesis 3:15
NOTE: Eve would have children. This first Bible prophetic statement says that this enmity and the struggle between good and evil would continue in the human race through successive generations. |
