Q14 So the question is asked—Can the Bible be trusted?
The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. Psalm 19:7
NOTE: The many fulfilments of prophecy show that God’s Word is precise, and what it states, happens just as it says it will. So much has already been fulfilled. We can have certainty that the remainder of what God has said will happen, will happen.
Q15 What is the purpose of the Bible?
But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness? 2 Peter 3:10,11.
Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness. Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless. 2 Peter 3:13,14.
NOTE: God has given us prophecy -
- To show us that He means what He says, and where the conditions are met, it comes to pass.
- To give us evidence of the truth of His claims to be our Lord and God.
- To give us confidence in His word.
- To provide us with the opportunity to change our lives.
- To impress upon us our duty to work for Him to help others while there is still time.
- To give us perspective, and hope of something better.
- To show us that God’s words are more sure than our senses and feelings—what we see or hear.
- To give us due warning of our fate if we reject God’s words.
