Q1 What claim does the Bible make for itself?
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. Psalm 119:105
For the word of the LORD is right; Psalm 33:4
We have a more sure word of prophecy whereunto ye do well that ye take heed. 2 Peter1:19
NOTE: Before evil came into this world, God could speak to human beings directly. After evil entered God has had to use go-betweens to relay His communications to us. He chose people of holy character to proclaim and write down His words. God gave the thoughts, ideas and pictures and they gave them in human words. These people are called prophets. Their words were not always about the future. Sometimes it was to give warnings about backsliding, or sinful practices. At other times they revealed God’s guidance and instruction.
From time to time God gave major revelations as those shown to Daniel and John. They called their words the testimony of Jesus, the essence of all prophecy. Revelation 19:10. Peter said that the One who inspired all prophecy was the Spirit of Christ. 1 Peter 1:11. So the Bible, being what God has revealed to us, is called the Word of Truth, the Word of God, the word of Prophecy.
Q2 For what reason did the Apostle John say he was in exile?
I John, who also am your brother, and companion in tribulation, and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ. Revelation 1:9
Q3 What did Paul call the words of scripture?
But in all things approving ourselves as the ministers of God, By the word of truth, by the power of God, by the armour of righteousness. 2 Corinthians 6:4-7
NOTE:: The Bible refers to itself therefore not only as the word of prophecy , the word of truth and the right word, but as the testimony of Jesus. |
