At a glance …

The history of the covenant -

Israel the man

Israel the nation

Christ the man

Christians the house

The end of all things.

NOTE:  This was the commission given to the Christian nation, and when their task is completed there is no further opportunity for the blessing of the Gospel.  There will be no second chance. Christ will come in glory and evil will be overcome.  This is part of the new testament, the new covenant in Jesus blood.  The experience of Christians today is to be the same as Abraham’s—to trust and obey, and to overcome the temptations that come to us, just as Christ overcame.

Q26 How does the Bible make it clear that the covenant with Israel was dependent on factors other than racial heritage?

For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel:  Romans 9:6

Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth [is] mine:  And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These [are] the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.  Exodus 19:5,6.

Q27 What was their side of the covenant and how did God say it could be broken?

But if ye will not hearken unto me, and will not do all these commandments;  And if ye shall despise my statutes, or if your soul abhor my judgments, so that ye will not do all my commandments, but that ye break my covenant:  I also will do this unto you;  Exodus 26:15,16.

Q28 What is God’s side of the covenant?

I will be their God.  Genesis 17:8;  Jeremiah 24:7; 2 Corinthians 6:16.

Showing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.  Exodus 20:6

I will rejoice over them to do them good.  Jeremiah 32:41

Q29 What did Jesus say when He saw Nathaniel?

Jesus saw Nathaniel coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!  John 1:47

NOTE:  God is building a group of people who will fulfil all the terms of the covenant, a people will follow God as sons, and work for Him and love Him with all their hearts. They will trust and obey Him by faith as did Abraham, the friend of God, reflecting His character in the world.  They will be a pure people who will not do iniquity, and there will be no guile in their mouths. They will do all His will, keep His commandments, go to all peoples, and be a blessing in seeking and saving the lost.  They will fulfil the purpose of God in all things.  In the midst of the kingdom of darkness and evil they will be ambassadors of God to show the light and blessing of the kingdom of God.  The covenant was not so much ‘national’ leading to pride, as ‘purposeful’ leading to character purity.

Q30 What had Moses been instructed by God to say to the Children of Israel?

Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine:  And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.  Exodus 19:6
