Q5 In the Bible what other expressions are used about the people of Israel?

Thou hast brought a vine out of Egypt: Psalm 80:8

When Israel was a child then I loved him, and called my son out of Egypt. Hosea 11:1

But thou, Israel, art my servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, the seed of Abraham my friend.  Isaiah 41:8

Behold my servant, whom I uphold; mine elect, [in whom] my soul delighteth; I have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles.  He shall not cry, nor lift up, nor cause his voice to be heard in the street.  A bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench: he shall bring forth judgment unto truth.   Isaiah 42:1-3

Q6 What was the special relationship between God and Israel?

For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God: the LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth.  Deuteronomy 7:6

Q7 How did God establish this special relationship with them?

And I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from them, to do them good;  Jeremiah 32:40

Moreover I will make a covenant of peace with them; it shall be an everlasting covenant with them: and I will place them, and multiply them, and will set my sanctuary in the midst of them for evermore.  My tabernacle also shall be with them: yea, I will be their God, and they shall be my people.  And the heathen shall know that I the LORD do sanctify Israel, when my sanctuary shall be in the midst of them for evermore.  Ezekiel 37:26-28

And confirmed the same unto Jacob for a law, and to Israel for an everlasting covenant: Unto thee will I give the land of Canaan, the lot of your inheritance: Psalm 105:10,11.

NOTE:  God said He chose Israel as a nation for Himself, ‘because he loved thy fathers, therefore he chose their seed after them’.  God not choose them because they were numerous, but He chose them, to be special.  ‘For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God: the LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth. The LORD did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than any people; for ye were the fewest of all people:  But because the LORD loved you, Deuteronomy 7:6-8

Q8 What was the heart of the covenant?

I will be their God and they shall be my people.  Jeremiah 32:8

NOTE:  These words of the covenant come repeatedly throughout Scripture.

Q9 What was the promise of the covenant?

Unto thee will I give the land of Canaan. Psalm 105:11

Q10  How does Paul write of this promise?

By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in
