The end of all things.

They kept not the covenant of God, and refused to walk in his law;  Psalm 78:10

NOTE:  A covenant always has two parties with conditions.  As long as the terms of a covenant are met it is an everlasting covenant. But the covenant with the Children of Israel, was broken by their own choice . They broke the covenant themselves in words which have been recorded in scripture.

Q20 At this watershed of history to whom did the descriptions of Israel -the firstborn son, the servant, the seed of Abraham, and the vine out of Egypt -now refer?

And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.

When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt:  And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son.  Matthew 2:14,15.

This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased.  Matthew 3:16,17.

NOTE: These words were spoken after the baptism of Jesus—’This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased’.  Matthew 3:16,17.   Jesus showed Himself to be the servant of God in the blessings of healing,  and Matthew quoted the following scripture to refer now to Jesus—Behold my servant. Matthew 12:14-21.  Matthew further said in v21,  ‘In His name shall the Gentiles trust.’   In Isaiah 41:8 Israel was referred to as the seed of Abraham.  Those words are later used in Acts to refer to Jesus.  ‘Ye are the children of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying unto Abraham, And in thy seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed.  Unto you first God, having raised up his Son Jesus, sent him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from his iniquities.’   Acts 3:25,26.  In Psalm 80:8 Israel was called the vine, but  when Jesus came He took the description for Himself.  ‘I am the true vine.’  John 15:1

Q21 How did Jesus fulfil the terms of the covenant in His life?

I have glorified thee on the earth.  John 17:4

Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Show us the Father?  John 14:9

The LORD is well pleased for his righteousness' sake; he will magnify the law, and make it honourable.  Isaiah 42:21

Christ pleased not Himself.  Romans 15:3

I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.  John 5:30

God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.  Acts 10:38

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the broken-hearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.  And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him.  And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears. Luke 4:18-21
