Q11 What spiritual things has God promised us in the Gospel?
If we confess our sins He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9
Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:16
If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. James 1:5
Q12 How do we know that God will keep His promises to us?
God is not a man that He should lie. Numbers 23:19
In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began. Titus 1:2
Q13 What conditions must we meet before God can fulfil His promises to us?
But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. James 1:6,7
If I regard (keep) iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me. Psalm 66:18
Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts. James 4:3
Q14 What prayers can we be sure will always be answered?
And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him. 1 John 5:14,15
NOTE: We often ask how we can know the will of God for us. It is found in His promises. Here is one of them, that if we ask for, believe it and say thank you for it, will be a guide through all of life. Psalm 32:8 I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.
Q15 How do we know that God has the power to keep His promises?
By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth. For he spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast. Psalm 33:6-9
NOTE: God created the world by the power of His Word. That same power raised Lazarus from the dead. He Jesus, cried with a loud voice, Lazarus come forth. And He that was dead came forth. John 11:43,44. Jesus is the Creator and the life giver.
Q16 When we ask God for something He has promised, what must accompany our prayer?
And when he was come into the house, the blind men came to him: and Jesus saith unto them, Believe ye that I am able to do this? They said unto him, Yea, Lord. Then touched he their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it unto you. And their eyes were opened; Matthew 9:28-30 |
