Q5 So how can we ‘eat the word of God’ and make it real for us personally?
Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. Psalm 119:11
For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them, but the word preached did not profit them not being mixed with faith in them that heard it. Heb 4:2
Q6 What does it mean to mix the Word of God with faith?
And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive. Matthew 21:22
Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost. Romans 15:13
Q7 What is God’s intention for us?
According as His divine power hath given us all things that pertain to life and godliness through the knowledge of Him that hath called us to knowledge and virtue. 2 Peter 1:3
Q8 How does God say that this life and godliness and virtue can be fulfilled in us?
Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises; that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. 2 Peter 1:4
NOTE: It was once calculated that the Bible contains 3573 promises! That should be sufficient help from God to cover our spiritual needs more than completely!
Q9 Of what do the promises of God form an important part?
For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them, but the word preached did not profit them not being mixed with faith in them that heard it. Heb 4:2
NOTE: Prayer is heaven's ordained means of success in the conflict with sin and the development of Christian character. The divine influences that come in answer to the prayer of faith will accomplish in the soul of the suppliant all for which he pleads. For the pardon of sin, for the Holy Spirit, for a Christ-like temper, for wisdom and strength to do His work, for any gift He has promised, we may ask; and the promise is, "Ye shall receive." And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive. Matthew 21:22. These promises mixed with faith, can change our lives. For any gift He has promised we may ask. It is in this way that we overcome temptation and sin and begin to prepare for the new world that God will make.
Q10 What are the steps by which we make the promises of God real to us?
- Ask for the promise.
- Believe the promise.
- Claim the promise, say thank you before you even receive it, trusting in God.
We do this with friends all the time:
“Will you meet me at the station at 6.00 o’clock?” we ask. “Yes, we will!” We make preparations for our journey in peace being absolutely sure they will be there to meet us. We are believing the promise. We quite naturally say—”Thanks so much, I look forward to seeing you then, Bye!” We have claimed their promise. We trust them to keep their promise.
God wants us to have this same simplicity in our prayers to Him -
- To ask
- To believe and
- To say thank you
for those things that He has promised in connection with the gospel. |
