NOTE: The sanctuary was built in the middle of the camp of the children of Israel in the wilderness. It had a wall of white linen standing for purity all around it. The sacrifices took place in the courtyard which was the open area around the tabernacle itself. Inside the tent there were two apartments. The first was called the Holy Place. The second was called the Most Holy Place. Only the High Priest went there, and then only once a year on the annual service of the Day of Atonement.
A sacrifice was made every morning and evening for the sins of the people. The whole day was covered with the blood of the Lamb, showing them the Saviour and Redeemer to come, who had graciously given them the blessing of life for that day. At the end of the day they were assured of forgiveness and pardon if they had done wrong.
When Jesus came and died on the cross no more sacrifices were needed. He was ‘The Sacrifice’—the innocent, sinless substitute dying for our sins in our place. This is how much God loves us.
The whole of the sanctuary service was an object lesson of Jesus and His ministry on earth and later in heaven.
Q10 For what purpose did Jesus come to our world?
And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. Matthew 1:21
Q11 When the personal sacrifices for sin took place in the sanctuary courtyard day by day, what happened to the blood?
And the priest that is anointed shall take of the bullock's blood, and bring it to the tabernacle of the congregation: And the priest shall dip his finger in the blood, and sprinkle of the blood seven times before the LORD, before the veil of the sanctuary. Hebrews 4:5,6.
NOTE: The law that had been broken was in the Ark of the Covenant behind the veil of the Most Holy Place. The blood was placed before the veil to show that the sin was pardoned and covered and forgiven. The sinner was free, but a record of the pardon remained in the sanctuary, through the blood spots on the ground. |
