And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat. Genesis 3:1-6
Q6 After taking the fruit did Adam and Eve feel wise and good?
And they heard the voice of God walking in the garden in the cool of the day; and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God amongst the trees of the garden. And the Lord God called unto Adam and said unto him, Where art thou? And he said, I heard thy voice and I was afraid, because I was naked and I hid myself. Genesis 3:8,10
Q7 What had they done to try and cover up their realisation that they were naked and that their innocence had gone?
And they knew that they were naked and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves aprons. Genesis 3:7
Q8 How did God challenge Adam and Eve?
Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree whereof I commanded that thou shouldst not eat? Genesis 3:11
Q9 How like our responses today, were the words of Adam and Eve then?
And the man said, the woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree and I did eat. And the woman said, the serpent beguiled me and I did eat.
NOTE: Adam blamed both God, and the woman. Eve blamed the serpent who had deceived her. Neither of them admitted that they personally had disobeyed God. It was all someone else’s fault, even God’s fault. This was the beginning of the problems that we see all around us today. Today we instinctively pass the blame today if we are caught out in something wrong. The disintegration had begun.
Q10 Who or what was the serpent that was in the Garden of Eden?
And the great dragon was cast out into the earth, that old serpent called the Devil and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world. Revelation 12:9
Q11 How did Jesus describe Satan’s being cast out of heaven?
I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. Luke 10:18
Q12 How does the Bible tell us that Satan began his work of deception?
And he said unto the woman, Yea hath God said, ye shall not eat of every tree of the Garden. Genesis 3:1
NOTE: These words were designed to instil doubt into the mind of Eve.
Q13 His next ploy was to tell her a lie. What was it?
And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: Genesis 3:2-4 |
