Q1 What was the world like when first made by God?
And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. Genesis 1:31
Q2 With what qualities did God intend that people should show?
But the fruit of the spirit is love joy peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness … meekness., temperance. Galatians 5:22
Q3 When we look at the world today what do we see and hear instead?
Now the works of the flesh are these: adultery, fornication, uncleanness … hatred, variance, wrath, strife. Galatians 5:19-21
Q4 What brought about this change?
And the Lord God commanded the man saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat, but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil thou shalt not eat of it, for in the day that thou eatest thereof, thou shalt surely die. Genesis 2:16,17.
And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food and that it was pleasant to the eyes and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof and did eat, and gave to her husband with her and he did eat.
NOTE: This was not a tree with strange properties, but it was there as a test to see whether they would trust God and love and obey him. God did not make automatons. He made people who could choose to love him or to disobey. Without this God would have just made robotic creatures without the capacity of love. Our power of choice is what gives us human dignity.
Q5 Who had suggested to Eve that if she took the fruit she would not come to any harm?
Now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. |
