Truth For Today Bible Study Course

At-a-glance …

God loves us

God says come

We choose say yes to Him

We admit our sin

We are sorry for our sin

We confess our sin

We turn from our sin

We have a new clean life and a new beginning

Q14 When we are caught out in our sins, we feel something but it does not lead to any change of life.  How does the Bible describe it?

The sorrow of the world worketh death.  2 Corinthians 7:10

Q15 What is the next step we must take when our sins have been shown to us?

I acknowledged my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the LORD. Psalm 32:5

NOTE:  We do not need to confess our sins to God through another person or priest.  Jesus is our only Mediator with God.  ‘For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;  who gave himself a ransom for all.’  2 Timothy 2:5,6.

Q16 If we have hurt someone by our sin what must we do?

Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, James 5:16

Q17 What further responsibility must be ours in regards to our sins?

Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. Isaiah 55:7

Q18 When we have taken all these steps with a true and open heart, what is the next action that God asks of us?

What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptised into Jesus Christ were baptised into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. Romans 1:1-6

SUMMARY BOX

Adam and Eve had disobeyed God.  They had hidden in fear and guilt.  It was God who went to find them.  It is God who seeks us in love too, not to condemn, but to help.  He asks us to admit our sins, to repent and be sorry for our sins, then to confess them to Him directly, and also to the one we have hurt, or to a group if we did or said something publicly.  We have to choose to forsake the sins we have enjoyed and love God only. The Bible asks us to show this by being baptised in water to show that we are washing all the old life away, to begin a new life with God.

A VERSE TO REMEMBER

And she shall bring forth a son and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for He shall save his people from their sins. Matthew 1:21
