This means that something is given in its outline form as in Daniel 2, and then the same theme is repeated maybe using different symbols, but giving more detail, and perhaps highlighting one important area as in Daniel 7. In the study of prophecy it is good to keep the outline of the original prophecy in one’s thinking to maintain the unity of what God is unfolding.
Q4 What was the description of the first beast representing Babylon?
The first was like a lion, and had eagle's wings: I beheld till the wings thereof were plucked, and it was lifted up from the earth, and made stand upon the feet as a man, and a man's heart was given to it. Daniel 7:4
Q5 What was the second beast that Daniel saw coming up out of the stormy waters that represented Medo-Persia?
And behold another beast, a second, like to a bear, and it raised up itself on one side, and it had three ribs in the mouth of it between the teeth of it: and they said thus unto it, Arise, devour much flesh. Daniel 7:5
Q6 How did Daniel describe the third beast that was Greece?
After this I beheld, and lo another, like a leopard, which had upon the back of it four wings of a fowl; the beast had also four heads; and dominion was given to it. Daniel 7:6
Q7 In the vision what was the fourth beast like that represented Rome.?
After this I saw in the night visions, and behold a fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, and strong exceedingly; and it had great iron teeth: it devoured and brake in pieces, and stamped the residue with the feet of it: and it was diverse from all the beasts that were before it; and it had ten horns. Daniel 7:7
NOTE: Daniel was given much more information and detail about the fourth beast. He also showed particular interest in this beast. It was not like anything that he had never seen before. It was hugely cruel, and bent on destruction. Daniel was disturbed by what he saw. Daniel 7:15,28.
Q8 As Daniel watched what change did he see happening among the ten horns?
I considered the horns, and, behold, there came up among them another little horn, before whom there were three of the first horns plucked up by the roots: and, behold, in this horn were eyes like the eyes of man, and a mouth speaking great things. And He shall speak great things against the Most High, and shall wear out the saints of the Most High, and think to change times and laws. Daniel 7:8, 25
NOTE: The coming of this little horn denotes a new phase of aggressive activity. At this point in the vision it is not against other nations but against God and His followers.
Q9 How does the Bible explain what the four beasts are?
These great beasts, which are four, are four kings, which shall arise out of the earth. Daniel 7:17
NOTE: In these prophecies of Daniel kings and kingdoms are interchangeable words.
Q10 Immediately after seeing these four beasts, what was the next development in the vision?
I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like the pure wool: his throne was like the fiery flame, and his wheels as burning fire. A fiery stream issued and came |
