In the teaching catechisms of the Roman Catholic church the second commandment “Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven images nor bow down and serve them, has been removed”. The fourth or Sabbath commandment then becomes the third commandment and the tenth commandment is split in two, thus keeping a total of Ten Commandments. The Sabbath commandment is shortened to a simple reminder, “Remember that thou keep holy the Sabbath day”, leaving the reason for and the origin of the Sabbath of the Lord thy God unmentioned. The fact that God created all things in six days and for that reason made the seventh day a holy day putting a special blessing into it, is omitted.
