Q1 When Jesus began His ministry what statement did He make?
Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel. Mark 1:14,15.
Q2 To what ‘time’ was Jesus referring?
And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease. Daniel 9:27
NOTE: Jesus knew the scriptures and He was referring in these words to the precise time when He should appear at the beginning of the 70th and last week of the prophecy of Daniel 9. He showed publicly that this prophecy referred to Himself. He Himself was the anchor that secured the entire prophecy of the seventy weeks and also of the remaining time till the 2300 days would be ended.
Q3 Why would the words about the evening oblation, of which the angel Gabriel spoke to Daniel, have been especially meaningful to him?
Yea, whiles I was speaking in prayer, even the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, being caused to fly swiftly, touched me about the time of the evening oblation. Daniel 9:21
NOTE Daniel, who was in captivity in Babylon was praying towards the temple in Jerusalem, which was the centre of his worship at home. It was the time of the evening sacrifice and Daniel was in prayer, remembering the solemn service that used to take place at that hour. Gabriel came at that very time of day to tell him that those sacrifices, and the oblations that accompanied the sacrifice, i.e. the gifts of grain and wine oblations, would stop. This would happen when Messiah was cut off or killed in the middle of the 70th week.
